Sadly, the Outback has replaced the Forester as the sleeper of the Subaru line.

I still have the 2004 Forester that I bought new with the turbo engine and stick shift, which they no longer offer in the Forester. (Beats me... why?) With less weight and a shorter final-drive ratio, it's absolutely a blast. And nobody pays any attention to an older Forester with a quiet, single exhaust pipe.

I hear ya! My heart wants an Allroad...my brain loves my Outback XT. Besides...the ground clearance is phenomenal...more than some large SUVs. And the turbo...ohhhh...the turbo.

I was looking for a vehicle to replace my manual transmission Audi Allroad when I came across your article. I've never given Subaru the time of day but was intrigued by the write-up. So I went for a test drive. Guess what? There's a brand new XT in my garage.
