The 2009 Volkswagen Passat CC is a key player in the emerging 4-door coupe segment. You may have seen one of these CCs on the road and done a double-take, thinking, “I THOUGHT that was a VW Passat, but something looks a bit different”. Well, you weren’t seeing things; the Volkswagen Passat CC is almost the same in terms of dimensions as the regular Passat. It sits on the same wheelbase but it is .6 inches longer on either end and two inches lower to the ground.

We tested the VW CC Sport model with the 2.0T 4-cylinder engine that produces 200 horsepower at 5,100 rpm and 207 lb-ft of torque at 1,700 rpm. The CC does come with the VR6 engine as an option, but we found that the 2.0T was more than enough to move the 3,400 pound CC around. The 2.0T engine also got decent fuel economy, with 19 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.

The Passat CC starts at $27,100 and our CC Sport model, as-tested, still came in under $30k, at $29,000.  This price may seem a bit steep since some of the perks like navigation and sunroof still haven’t been added, but the style and quality make this 4-door coupe a value buy in its class.

While testing the 2010 Porsche Panamera, we had an opportunity to pick Porsche driver David Donohue’s brain about the features and design of the new Panamera. With the help of a Panamera cutaway car, you get a rare glimpse into some of the things that makes this car so great, like the low hood with the technology to prevent a pedestrian from going through the windshield in case of an accident to the thick doors that help provide the quiet ride. Donohoue also points out some of the smart design aspects, like the 100 L (just under 26.5 gallon) fuel tank that is hidden under the rear seats, and the tactfully-placed exhaust.
