In my opinion, the 2002 models are much better than the 1999-2001 models.
BMW did a "facelift" in 2002 with a lot of changes. Some of the new features include rolling down all the windows by holding down the unlock button on the keyless entry. Youtube.com the "making of an E46." It will give you a true appreciation for the detail that goes into these cars:
