This is the 2nd E28 M5 I've owned. Three years ago I paid $8k for it and I thought it would be a car that I would keep forever. I'm moving to Brooklyn soon and don't have the space to keep a car like this, so I have to let her go. It was my daily driver for that first year, but the engine blew and I had the Sport 3700 M6 Metric Mechanic motor installed (August of ’09), increasing the HP from 256 (stock) to an estimated 350hp. The block is from a Euro spec M6 and the cost including installation was almost $15k. When the car came back from having the new motor put in, I put another $2k+ into replacing about 95% of the suspension... Since then I've not driven it very much. I would guess that there's only about 3K miles on the new motor. The odometer stopped working right after I bought the car, but I have receipts for all the things that were done to it and they're dated of course. The body of the car is in excellent shape and really the biggest problem is that my ex-wife 'keyed' the passenger side rear door (bitch!). There is very little rust on the whole car and the only places where you can see rust is on the inside of the trunk around the seal. If I were to keep the car, my plan was to have the people at Metric Mechanic rebuild the diff. Not that it's giving me any problems, they just have some changes that would be better suited for the higher HP engine and after 20 years it could probably use a good look over. The interior is in excellent condition too, with the exception of two things. The dash is cracked in several places and the driver's side door panel appears to have been stained somehow and the color is a little weird. You can see it in the pictures at my site. http://www.theknese.com/pages/1988-BMW-E28-M5-02.php
