09/25/2002 - Paris Press Kit

By: Alan Riley

Following is the text content of the Paris Press Kit for the BMW Z4, as presented by BMW.

Design: a clear pledge to driving pleasure.

With its long, sleek and stretched-out engine compartment, the snug cockpit wrapped around the driver and passenger, and the short, muscular rear end, the BMW Z4 boasts all the attributes typical of a classic roadster in unique proportions: Despite its wheelbase measuring 98.2 inches, the Z4 is still a compact car due to its short front and rear overhangs and overall length of 161.1 inches. It's impressive width of 70.1 inches, in turn, accentuates the car's sporting ambitions. So there can be no doubt about it - this roadster is a genuine athlete without one single gram of fat!

In its powerful and striking design, the BMW Z4 appeals to all your senses:

You can literally see and feel all the sculpted lines, the edges, the soft, rounded-off corners and the deep recesses in the body creating a perfect interplay of contours, shadows and reflections all accentuating the perfect proportions of the BMW Z4 from every angle, from every perspective.

The BMW Z4 has two waistlines: The lower waistline extends down gently from the front and back up again behind the door, accentuating the feeling of powerful, dynamic performance and bringing back the memory of the classic sports roadster of days gone by without doors at the side. The upper waistline, by contrast, extends in a powerful arch from the beginning of the engine compartment lid all the way to the back of the door on each side, then curving out again over the rear wheel arch. Pure dynamism accentuates the door line clearly extending into the A-pillar and interrupted by the turn indicator light at the side highlighting yet another refined idea: Each time you activate the turn indicators the brand logo is highlighted in all its unique style.
