Germany's BMW Reinvents Cult Classic

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) - BMW, known for its Teutonic precision in churning out luxury muscle cars, has undertaken the greatest cult car rebirth since Volkswagen brought back the Beetle.
This time it's the British Mini, the boxy little car famed for its squat silhouette and spartan design that has changed little since it first rolled off the assembly line in 1959.

Success Needed by BMW
BMW Mini needs solid success to prove brand viability
PERUGIA, Italy, May 21 (Reuters) - BMW AG's new Mini will take markets by storm in the short term, but it remains to be seen whether the move into small cars will work for the German luxury car maker over the long haul.
Journalists have been driving the new car, looking like an original 1959 Mini on steroids, for the first time in the hills around Perugia in central Italy. First reports indicate that it passed its first test as a driver's car.
