Last September Porsche announced there Carrera GT supercar. Dealers have now started accepting deposits for the cars. The dealers can't say for sure whether or not Porsche is even going to build the car and Porsche is remaining quiet.
The Carrera GT is Porsche's first supercar since the 959. The 558-horsepower, 5.5 liter V10 powered supercar is reported to have a top speed in the 205 mph range.

Porsche claims to have quite a few interested parties who apparently have expressed firm interest in buying the car. Porsche is unofficially asking buyers to make a $22,400 purchase deposit against what Porsche is calling a "option certificate." Sources say the certificate guarantees a buyer delivery of the car in the event Porsche builds it. The purpose of the option certificate is to discourage speculators from bidding on the cars. How much might this phanton car cost? Porsche and dealers estimate the car will cost atleast $250,000 and not more than $400,000.
Porsche Cars North America is denying that Porsche AG has even authorized the construction of the car. They are further denying that dealers are issuing certificates although they admit that some dealers have taken deposits.
Porsche engineers are reportedly building prototypes and will begin testing soon.
