ZZ Top Cars On Display At Los Angeles Museum
The Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles opened its doors yesterday (June 14) for the annualCars & Stars Gala, which kicked off a new display called "The Cars And Guitars Of Rock 'N' Roll." ZZ Top singer-guitarist BillyF.
Gibbons was on hand to co-host the gala with Jay Leno (news - Y! TV), as well as to donate two of the band's cars to theexhibit--"Copperhead" and "CadZZila."Gibbons described "CadZZila" to LAUNCH, "One of our favorites, alongside the 'Little Red Coupe,' is certainly 'CadZZila'--[a]1948 Cadillac that's been repowered and repainted and just about re-everythinged. And the good news is that we still have the keysand we can drive it."
LAUNCH asked Gibbons about his personal relationship with both cars and music and how it all fits in with the display. "Yourstruly, Billy F. Gibbons, that bearded boy from the ZZ Top bunch, has been part of this makin' loud noises--both with guitars andcars--since we started," he said. "We're still tryin' to figure out how it all works, but somehow it makes a lot of sense--or it makessome kind of sense."
"The Cars And Guitars Of Rock 'N' Roll" opens to the public today (June 15) and runs until December 31. Besides the ZZ Topvehicles, museum visitors will see Eric Clapton's 1966 Cadillac DeVille and custom 1940 Ford, Janis Joplin's psychedelicPorsche, Rod Stewart's 1983 black-on-black Ferrari 400I convertible, Jeff Beck's tomato-red 1932 hot rod, Elton John's 1949Delahaye, Sammy Hagar's 1967 Shelby Mustang, Keith Emerson's 1997 Harley Davidson, former Guns N' Roses lead guitaristSlash's 1936 customized Ford, and Elvis Presley's 1976 fit-for-a-king Cadillac El Dorado.
