4th Porsche model coming - 01/24/2002
FRANKFURT, Jan 24 (Reuters) - German sports car maker Porsche is planning a fourth series to complement its current models - the 911 and Boxster, and an all-terrain car Cayenne, a newspaper reported on Thursday.
In a preview to its publication on Friday, the Financial Times Deutschland cited suppliers saying Porsche has already conducted preparations for an expansion of the Leipzig plant, where the new car series is to be built.
Porsche is likely to announce the new series towards the middle of the year, the FTD said.
On Thursday evening local time no-one was available at the company to comment.
``It was made clear to us that we should prepare for a drastic increase in parts, and that it wasn't just to do with Cayenne,'' said the head of a Porsche supplier in Leipzig, the paper reported.
To develop the new series, Porsche is working with Bertrand, an engineering service provider, as its own development centre is fully booked with outside orders.
