BMW Rolls Out Foldable Mountain Bikes - 02/06/2002

Stop Your Engines: BMW Rolls Out Foldable, Lightweight Mountain Bikes

Durable, Advanced Engineering and Sleek Styling Deliver Smooth Ride

WOODCLIFF LAKE, NEW JERSEY, February 6, 2002 (BMW of North America, Inc.) - BMW has introduced two new mountain bikes, incorporating advanced technology and BMW craftsmanship. The new Q6.S and Q3.S are all-new designs are durable enough for rugged mountain terrain as well as smooth riding on urban streets. Constructed of high-tech lightweight aluminum frames and engineered for the ultimate ride, BMW's two new bikes deliver BMW performance without an engine.

A rapid-action catch and folding joint lets riders quickly fold and store Q bikes in most car trunks, airline luggage and carrier bags, with the cables protected inside the frame. Their portability makes the Q Bike ideal for the commute to work and school.

BMW took its motorcycle design technology featuring Telelever suspension and applied it to create the Q6.S model, providing comfort and stability on rough terrain, limiting the compression of the front suspension for stable braking and virtually eliminating "front-end dive" or other mishaps. The 27-speed bike also features Shimano XTR components. A Rapid Fire gearshift, which provides a quick, precise change in riding with three gears in the front and nine gears in the rear, and a full suspension round out the Q6.S for an adventure built for biking enthusiasts. The Q6.S weighs under 29 pounds.

Designed solely for the U.S. market, the 24-speed Q3.S also offers a smooth ride through traffic and trails, with a suspension that minimizes vibrations, unwanted torsions and pedaling energy. Its front suspension also prevents "front-end dive" and its frame features Shimano Alivo components, with a powerful Rapid Fire gearshift that features three gears in the front and eight in the rear. The Q3.S weighs 32 pounds.

Suggested retail price for the BMW Q6.S is $3,995 and $995 for the BMW Q3.S. Cables on both silver models are contained inside, protecting them from possible damage and making them easier to travel with. Each model comes in 18 and 20-inch frames. BMW offers a carrying bag that fits both models, and allows for over-the-shoulder carrying of folded bikes.
